New Vice Chancellors for 13 universities in the country have been appointed by the Ministry of education.
This was announced on Friday.
In an announcement made by the Ministry, CS Ezekiel Machogu has appointed Prof. Benedict Mwavu Mutua as the new VC for the Technical University of Kenya (TUK) as Prof Nathan Oyori Ogechi takes over the reins at Kisii University.
Alupe University will now be headed by Prof Barasa Lwagula in the new changes as Machakos University will be led by Prof Joyce Jepkirui Agalo as VC.
At Jaramogi University of Science and Technology, Prof Emily Achieng Akuno will be the new university boss as her colleague, Prof Linus Muthuri Gitonga, takes over at Karatina University.
Prof James H. P. Kahindi on the other hand was named as the new university boss of Pwani University.
Tom Mboya University will now be headed by Prof. Charles Omondi.
Other new appointees were Prof Douglas Shitanda (South Eastern Kenya University), Prof. Thomas Kimeli Cheruiyot(University of Eldoret) Prof Linus Muthuri Gitonga ( Karatina University) Prof. Peter K. Muriungi (Tharaka University ) and Prof Peter Nganga Muchiri ( Dedan Kimathi University of Technology).
In their new capacity as university bosses, the 13 will be tasked with managing the day-to-day running of the institutions even as they are answerable to the various University Councils.
As the accounting officers, they will be answerable for the funds disbursed to them by the national government and fees collected from students.
The 13 new VCs will also be responsible for the general development projects of the institutions.
The announcement by Machogu’s ministry came months after the Public Service Commission (PSC) advertised vacancies in the various institutions as the term of previous university bosses came to an end.
