Education CS leads ministry to mourn late General Ogolla as a patriot

Education CS Ezekiel Machogu has mourned Gen Francis Ogolla as having died on the line of duty.

Education Cabinet Secretary (CS) Ezekiel Machogu has led the Ministry of Education (MoE) in mourning the tragic death of Chief of Defence Forces, CDF Francis Ogolla, and 9 other military personnel in an air crash in Elgeyo Marakwet County yesterday.

“On behalf of the Ministry of Education and on my own behalf, I wish to send my most sincere condolences to the family, friends and the whole nation after the death of the Chief of Defence Forces,Gen. Francis Omondi Ogolla and nine (9) other military personnel in an air crash in Elgeyo Marakwet County yesterday,” reads part of the condolence message.

Through a press release dated April 19, 2024, the CS acknowledged that CDF General Ogolla and team were on an assignment to inspect the on-going renovation works in several schools in the North Rift region, including Chesitet primary School, Cheptulel Boys High School, Chepoton Primary School, Ksaa Primary School, and Sablimoi Primary School.

The CS also called upon communities in the North Rift region to embrace peace and end their hostilities to allow a return to normal of school operations in honour of the fallen giants, and also wished the two military personnel, who survived the crash, a quick recovery.

General Ogolla died after the chopper they were flying in alongside other senior officers crashed in Kaben, Marakwet East, yesterday.

The other 9 military in the ill-fated chopper were Brigadier Swaleh Saidi, Colonel Duncan Keittany, Lieutenant Colonel David Sawe, Major George Magondu, Captain Sora Mahamed, Captain Hillary Litali, Senior Sergeant John Kinyua Mureithi, Sergeant Cliphonce Omondi, and Sergeant Rose Nyawira.

Ogolla took over as CDF on April 28, 2023.
