Education CS mourns don who loved Science as an astute scholar

Residents of Kisii and Nyamira counties have mourned Prof Sorobea Nyachio Bogonko as a great academic who touched many lives globally.

In his message of condolence to the bereaved family, Education CS Julius Ogamba termed the late Bogonko as an astute scholar and administrator who made significant contributions to the development of university education.

“I am saddened by the demise of Professor Bogonko who has left an indelible and influential mark in the education sector,” read part of the message.

The CS said that the late don’s dedicated tireless work spanning decades was a clear testimony of his insightful service to communities.

Bogonko, who was at one time the principal of Maseno College (now Maseno University), will be remembered for his love of Science when he donated laboratory equipment worth Ksh1 million to a secondary school in his Kisii home.

“We have lost a man who lived an exemplary life both at home and internationally,” said one of the elders Josephat Maroria, a retired primary school teacher.

“When he came home he always met secondary school students and encouraged them to put more effort in the study of Science subjects and donated learning materials to support them,” said Alloys Mong’are, praising him as an avid scholar who published many magazines and journals.

Bogonko was born in Matongo village of Monyerero Ward in Kitutu Chache North Constituency, Kisii County.

According to area MP Japhet Nyakundi who mourned with the family, the Professor was a straightforward man who treasured education.
