Education among most discussed issues in 2024 parliament, watchdog states

The 2024 Parliamentary Scorecard by Mzalendo has revealed that the most vocal MPs in parliament raised discussions regarding matters of Education.

The report indicated that Wilberforce Oundo Ojiambo, who topped as the most vocal MP in the National Assembly, raised a question to the Cabinet Secretary for Education, Julius Ogamba, on withholding of KCSE certificates over failure to clear fees.

He also requested for a statement on challenges faced by students in accessing university registration through KUCCPS, and contributed to the debate on Assisted Reproductive Technology (Amendment) Bill.

MP Beatrice Elachi issued inquiries about EduAfya to CS Ogamba, after an observation that school children lacked a much-needed medical cover.

She also inquired about the progress of the implementation of CBC, and whether public schools had valid titles to the land they are situated upon.

Parliamentarian James Nyikal Wambura supported the motion on the County Licensing (Uniform Procedure) Bill; Contributed to the motion on the development of a satellite-based climate change monitoring policy; Supported a petition concerning the absorption and payment of medical interns; Emphasized the importance of their role; Condemned police brutality during peaceful picketing and proposed amendments to the Climate Change (Amendment) Bill.

Parliament has also discussed a total of 8 bills which include The Higher Education Loans Board (Amendment) Bill, 2023.
