The Kenya National Drama and Film Busia County Festivals have officially concluded. Early Childhood Development Education (ECDE) learners delivered exceptional performances that earned them a place in the regional competitions.
The festival, which attracted participants from both public and private schools, showcased diverse talents across various genres, highlighting the growing emphasis on performing arts in early education.
At the closing ceremony, Beatrice Nakholi, County Executive Committee Member (CECM) for Education and Industrial Skills Development, praised the young performers for their dedication and hard work. She noted that their success resulted from months of preparation and commitment.
“The teams that have secured spots at the regional level deserve to be celebrated. Their success is not just about winning but about the effort, passion, and resilience they have demonstrated,” Nakholi said.
She emphasized the importance of drama and film in education, stating that creative arts play a crucial role in shaping well-rounded individuals.

Faustin Ounoi, echoed her sentiments, stressing that early childhood education is more than just academic learning.

“Education is not just about reading and writing; it’s about fostering creativity, collaboration, and critical thinking. The performing arts provide a platform for children to develop essential life skills in a fun and engaging way,” he said.
The director of ECDE, Dr Douglas Barasa, commended teachers and trainers for their role in nurturing young talent, acknowledging that their commitment and expertise had played a significant part in the learners’ success.
He also recognized the unwavering support of parents and guardians, noting that their encouragement was instrumental in shaping the children’s confidence and performance.
Nakholi urged continued investment in creative arts, emphasizing that drama is a powerful tool for character development.
“By supporting these programs, we are moulding the future of our children, our county, and our nation,” she stated.
Among the teams that will proceed to the regional competitions are Masebula ECDE, Clanne Academy, and Sidonge ECDE in the Solo Verses category. Chakol Girls ECDE, Kocholia ECDE, and Clanne Academy excelled in Choral Verse. At the same time, Davisan Academy, Nambale Urban ECDE, and Nangina Girls ECDE impressed in the Singing Games category.
