The Kenya Union of Post-Primary Education Teachers (KUPPET) Kisii branch has cautioned parents against releasing their children for school reopening when third term resumes.
The branch Executive Secretary Joseph Abincha said that this was in best interest of their security and safety as teachers will not be present, in respect to the teachers’ strike slated for August 26, which has been endorsed by both the Union and the Kenya National Union of Teachers (KNUT).
Speaking in Kisii town, Abincha said that the Union will not sit back and watch the government undermine the teaching profession, while tossing teachers back and forth.
Teachers are demanding implementation of the 2021-2025 Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA), confirmation of intern teachers, and confirmation of 20,000 teachers among other grievances.
“If the government will not honour the agreement, we shall speak in the best language that they understand, going to the streets,” he said.
