Directorate of Adult Education launches online learning for Malindi learners

The Directorate of Adult and Continuing Education in the country has introduced an online learning platform programme for adult education learners in the Malindi Sub-county in Kilifi County.

Speaking to Education News in his office in Malindi town recently, Malindi sub-county adult education Officer  Moses Uledi Mbaruku revealed that the online learning platform programme is meant for adult learners who cannot attend classes physically.

Mbaruku further revealed that the primary objective of the online learning platform programme is to enhance the education standards for adult learners who will be sitting for the 2025 Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) as private candidates in the sub county. This underscores the importance and impact of the initiative.

“The Online learning platform programme in the sub-county was started last year (2024),” stated the sub-county adult education Officer.

Mbaruku revealed that the Malindi sub-county is the only one in Kilifi County that has introduced the online learning platform programme.

The Sub County adult education officer stated that learners will go to the computer and Google Classroom and find all subjects and relevant revision materials for ease of learning.

At the same time, he revealed that the government had allowed 2024 KCSE candidates who never performed well to repeat and sit for the 2025 KCSE to upgrade their grades.

The sub county adult education officer advised those adult learners who will sit for the 2025 KCSE as private candidates in the sub county to study extra harder, emphasizing the opportunity for self-improvement and the potential for better national examination results.

“There is no shortcut in passing national examinations in the developing world except to exercise self-determination and confidence,” he added.

However, the sub-county adult education department stated that the Directorate of Adult Education had established four Adult Secondary Schools in the sub-county.

The four adult Secondary Schools are Sir Ali Secondary Education, Malindi GK Prison Adult Secondary Education, Malindi Spring Adult Secondary Education, and Brightways Adult Secondary Education.

He advised youth in the sub-county who dropped in form one to come forward and join the learning institutions in large numbers in large to continue with their education.

Meanwhile, Mbaruku has disclosed that some 500 adult education learners sat for their Proficiency Test in May 2024, and all passed, and they were awarded certificates.
