The University of Nairobi (UoN) Deputy Vice-Chancellor (DVC) Prof. Francis Mulaa has been awarded for his contribution to the development of the Confucius Institute at the university.
The DVC, Prof. Francis Mulaa, was among 41 foreign dignitaries, sinologists, school principals, and directors of Confucius Institutes from 34 countries awarded with plaques of appreciation to honor their outstanding contributions to the construction and development of Confucius Institutes.
Prof. Mulaa was awarded during the 20th Anniversary of the Confucius Institute held in Beijing, China on Saturday.
The ceremony was witnessed by delegates led by Principal Secretary (PS) for Higher Education Beatrice Inyangala after attending the 2024 World Chinese Language Conference earlier in the same city.

At the conference, PS Inyangala oversaw the signing of an MoU between Kenya and China that will see the country officially embrace the study of Chinese language as an examinable subject at all education levels.
“We are happy to be associated with China because we share common interests in education, infrastructure development and technological advancement. This meeting marks the beginning of a prosperous era,” she said.
Also in attendance were Education Attaché to China, Albert Ombiro and Director of Confucius Institute, University of Nairobi, Professor Shangxue Wang among other dignitaries.
