The Member of Parliament (MP) for Rangwe Constituency, in Homa Bay County Lilian Gogo has issued bursary funds worth a KSh50 million courtesy of the National Government Constituency Development Fund (NG-CDF) for needy students.

While speaking during the disbursement of the funds yesterday May 13 at Asumbi Girls High, the MP revealed the kitty will be benefitting some 14, 600 students in secondary, colleges and university levels to ensure that they get their right to education by staying at schools.

“Education has become one of the basic human needs in the society. For better understanding and integration in the society, children need to be educated,” she said.

She further urged the National Government to consider increasing the amount allocated as NG-CDF as this will allow many students to receive help since the number of students in schools keeps on increasing over time.

“More allocation should be set aside for NG-CDF because of the benefits it has to the people. There is an increase in demand for the funds,” Gogo added.

In her constituency, Gogo said residents applied for bursaries in excess of KSh72 million and as a result they had to cut the shares of what the beneficiaries were supposed to receive.

“We had to reduce the amount of money we give college and university students from KSh10, 000 to KSh7000 so that the majority of the applicants get some money to support their education,” she said.
