Delayed release of NGCDF undermining education, says MP

Matungulu MP Stephen Mule speaking at Kisukioni Primary School yesterday, where he lamented the delay in the release of NGCDF.

Delayed release of National Government Constituency Development Fund (NGCDF) by Treasury is undermining education as children are forced to report to school empty-handed, Matungulu MP Stephen Mule has complained.

According to Mule, children from poor families who depend on bursaries suffer the most.

Mule revealed that as lawmakers they have collected signatures petitioning the Speaker of the National Assembly to recall the House and discuss the crisis.

“Parents are taking their children back to school after severe economic times and the late release of NGCDF funds is not doing any good. We have to ensure the children don’t wait for long,” he said.

He warned Treasury Cabinet Secretary (CS) Njuguna Ndung’u that he risks being impeached if something positive is not forthcoming.

His sentiments come just a day after his Kathiani counterpart Robert Mbui threatened to sponsor an impeachment motion against Ndung’u if the monies are not released in a week.

He said it is unfair for thousands of parents who filled out bursary forms to be kept waiting for this long.

According to Mbui, since the beginning of this financial year, they have only received Ksh34 million.
