Kenya National Union of Teachers (KNUT) Secretary General, Collins Oyuu, has demanded that the Teachers Service Commission (TSC) must confirm all Junior Secondary School (JSS) intern teachers into permanent and pensionable (PnP) terms by January next year.
Speaking in Likuyani during the send-off of Nahashon Wambulwa Mmasi – who was Lugari branch Executive Secretary – at Sango Comprehensive School, Oyuu assured that KNUT will prioritize the labour issue on teachers.
“The 46,000 interns, come rain come shine, must be confirmed on permanent and pensionable terms by January next year. If not so, hell might break loose,” he said.
He further called TSC to implement the 2021-2025 Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA) as presented to them in their recent memorandum urging that as a result, it will usher in room for discussions on a new CBA.
“We have presented a memorandum to TSC and we want to make sure that this time it will not be a ‘maternity’ CBA,” he stated.
The SG also asked the government to disburse the remaining Ksh1 billion meant for teachers’ salary increments.
