Residents of Kitaru in Borabu Constituency of Nyamira County are living in fear after baboons and monkeys continue to eat their crops and terrorise schoolgoing children.
They complained that the animals move from the nearby Kiptendeni and Kiangeni hills and block footpaths as well as steal food from homes causing panic and fear to the residents.
In the latest incident, they said that the animals blocked one footpath and terrorised two Grade One learners who were going home from school but were rescued by good samaritans.
“We looked for the children overnight and found them in a neighbour’s home the following morning,” said David Ogega.
They appealed to the Kenya Wildlife Services to find the best way of solving this wildlife- human conflicts that has created a lot of confusion in the area.

The proposed fencing of Makura Forest because it harbours most of these animals.
Mary Nyaboke narrated how she was chased form her farm by two male baboons when collecting vegetables in one of the evenings but was rescued by her husband after screaming for help.
Area Chief Charles Bitante appealed to parents to advise their children to walk in groups when going and leaving schools in order to avoid more danger from the animals as he sought audience from the KWS authorities on way forward.
The chief asked the residents not to break any law that protects wildlife because that will lead to a conflict between them and government.
