Clan politics, jealousy, backbiting and witchhunt among elected leaders in Nyamira County are the main cause of underdevelopment and the disunity, North Mugirango MP Joash Nyamoko has said.
Speaking during a burial ceremony at Kiabonyoru in his constituency yesterday, the legislator took issue with a section of elected leaders who have moved to court to challenge the establishment of the proposed Nyamira University at Kiabonyoru.
This comes two months after his West Mugirango counterpart Steve Mogaka led other people to court challenging Kiabonyoru as the ideal site of the proposed university.

In his petition, Mogaka argued that public participation had not been done to identify the site of the university.
“Nyamira State University could have opened its doors in September this year but because of clan politics and jealousy among the leaders, a few people have moved to court and blocked the process,” he told the mourners.
“The university is not a personal property but an institution which will help students from our county and the country at large to further their studies. Why should a leader move to court to block development and the establishment of the university which could benefit our own children? Wondered Nyamoko. “The state had given us Ksh500 million for the commencement of the project which has now been withdrawn because of court cases and wrangles among the elected leaders.”
