Govt bans church night vigils, discos, noisy clubs in Embu until exams end

Embu County Commissioner Jack Obuo addressing residents.

Embu county has imposed a sweeping ban on discos, night church gatherings (keshas), bars and entertainment spots across the county against noisy activities, effective until the end of the national examination period.

County Commissioner Jack Obuo said that the directive is part of the county’s commitment to ensuring students have a peaceful and conducive environment, free of excessive noise, to concentrate on their exams during this crucial time.

Obuo stressed that the measure is designed to help eliminate distractions that could jeopardize students’ focus and performance.

“Education is the bedrock of our children’s future,” he stated in a recent address.

The ban, a firm move by the Embu administration, is in line with a larger trend in the county that seeks to curb disruptive activities and promote public welfare.

Earlier this year, for instance, the county government closed dozens of liquor outlets violating licensing laws near schools and residential areas, aiming to limit distractions and disturbances in these zones.

Obuo’s efforts reflect a broader emphasis on student support during examination periods, with enforcement to include routine patrols and checks by local law enforcement to ensure compliance. As he pointed out, these measures are ultimately in the community’s best interest, addressing not only noise pollution but also fostering a culture of respect and accountability across the county.

The KPSEA exams kicked of yesterday Monday, October 28 across the country with the KCSE exams having started on Tuesday, October 22.
