After several complaints from parents of Tendere Location in Kisii, Chief Josephine Onduso has started a training programme for girls on life skills to sensitize them majorly on reproductive health and safety.
Speaking at her Omoringamu office during the launch of the training, the chief said that the training seeks to put the skills into use during this April holidays and it will continue thereafter.
“My office is teaming up with local youth empowerment organizations to keep our children involved in constructive activities in this holiday,” she said.
According to James Makori, one of the main intentions of the programme is to keep school children of all ages engaged as they will showcase their talents in various arts.
Among the areas to be covered during the week long training include life skills like first aid.
Makori, who was flanked by his group’s treasurer Eunice Williams, said that among other areas to be studied is the fight against the spread of HIV/Aids.
He said that his organization will invite experienced professionals from the Ministry of Health and psychologists who will share with the youth the effects of drug and substance abuse.
The chairman said the youth who will demonstrate exceptional abilities will be awarded certificates in their areas of excellence.
Onduso appealed to parents to release their children to attend the free training because it will arm them with social and economic survival skills.
She said her office had prioritized the children’s security through the Nyumba Kumi groups and assured parents of their safety during the whole exercise.
