Reigning boys football champions Serani Secondary School from Mombasa are through to the semi-finals of the Coast region Term Two games currently on in Voi, Taita Taveta.
Serani were no match for their opponents thrashing them in their first and second Group A ties to inch closer to retaining their title.
Serani showed no respect to homeboys Kenyatta High School Mwatate thumping them 3-1 in their opening encounter.
Not even the crowds rallying behind their opponent at Mwangea Lower ground could stop Serani from making their intentions to defend their title known.
Mahmud Luwai put the Serani in the lead three minutes into the game thanks to an assist from Khamis Nyale.
William Gitame would add a second goal for the champions in the 17th minute even as their hosts struggled to keep up with their pace.
Keen not to soak in more goals, Kenyatta High tightened their defense stopping goal-hungry Serani players from invading their territory.
Kenyatta made several attempts at Serani’s goal but their efforts were thwarted by a strong backline even as the first half ended 2-0 in favour of the champions.
Kenyatta High returned stronger in the second half with Hassan Kahindi pulling one back in the 62nd minute.
However, Serani responded well and intensified their hunt for the third goal.
Their efforts paid off five minutes later as Ali Salim outwitted Kenyatta High defenders to net his side’s third goal sealing their first win.
Serani made light work of Mokowe Secondary School from Lamu routing them 9-0 to chalk their second win and secure their place in the semis.
Shimba Hills from Kwale County also sealed their last four slots after chalking double victory.
Shimba Hills beat Mokowe 3-0 and Kenyatta High 3-1 in Group A.
Serani tops the pool tied on six points with Shimba Hills who have an inferior goal difference.
The two sides will face off today in their last Group tie which will also determine the pool winner.
It will be a battle for survival in Group B as Hadija from Mombasa, Vitengeni from Kilifi, Chanani from Tana River, and Taita Taveta’s Dr Aggrey battle for the remaining two semis slots.
The four sides have won and lost one match each, and are tied on three points.
In netball, former national champions Kaya Tiwi launched their title defense with a resounding 78-1 win over Buyani Secondary School from Tana River whereas Mombasa’s St Charles Lwanga drubbed Lamu’s Kiongwe 67-6. Kizurini of Kilifi dismissed Kasigau Girls from Taita Taveta 48-38.
