As KCSE theory papers started yesterday, CCTV cameras will be switched off in all examination centres during the period of the KCSE examinations in Kisii County, the Director of Education has revealed.
The Kisii Education boss Philip Chirchir said the move follows a directive by the Kenya National Examination Council (KNEC) that such gadgets will scare candidates while writing their exams.
Chirchir, who was flanked by the Kisii Central Deputy County Commissioner Maina Ngunyi, led other officials to open the examination container for distribution to various examination centres.
Ngunyi sent a stern warning to anybody who might be found cheating of severe consequences.
He assured the public of good security during this examination period, saying that each centre will be manned by two security officers. He encouraged all those involved to embrace integrity to keep the county a cheating-free zone.
Chirchir said there are 32,123 candidates, among them 16,317 boys and 15,810 girls in 352 centres, attributing the increase to consistent sensitization for parents to take their children to school.
