Significant progress has been made in implementing the Competency-Based Curriculum (CBC), which has now turned out to be a milestone witnessing extraordinary success.

Speaking during the launch of a Grade 9 class under the Kenya Primary Education Equity in Learning (KPEEL) Programme at Talau School, the West Pokot Education Sub-County Director, Amos Kibet, observed that the aim of the initiative was to improve learning outcomes and reduce regional disparities in Education. This is achieved through the pillars of access, equity, inclusion, quality, relevance, and governance accountability, all of which are supported by the Competency-Based Curriculum.

“Today’s event is not just about launching a new academic facility. It is rather a celebration of collective commitment to the implementation of our CBC,” he said.

He added that the government is keen on providing all Junior schools with the necessary infrastructure, such as laboratories, Learning Resource Centres, and sufficient teachers, to ensure optimal learning outcomes in all the centres.

He thanked the Ministry of Education (MoE) for supporting learning through the school feeding programme, which has greatly increased school enrollment and curbed absenteeism among the learners.

The school’s principal, Barnabas Chirchir, thanked the school’s Board of Management and the Public Works personnel for ensuring that the desired standards, including well-equipped classrooms, a conducive learning environment, and qualified teachers, were fully met.

He promised unwavering commitment by the teachers and learners to reciprocate by improving academic standards in the school.
