Busia County Director of Education (CDE) Ekaale Ekalyo has lauded both primary and secondary school heads in the county for posting quality grades in the 2023 KCPE and KCSE national exams.
The Director said that although the schools’ academic performance had tremendously improved, there was still an urgent need for learners, teachers and education stakeholders to work as a team to achieve better results this year.
Looking at the 2023 KCSE exam results analysis availed to Education News, a total of 17,637 candidates comprising 8,643 boys and 8,994 girls in the county’s 8 sub-counties.
Samia sub-county in Funyula constituency registered 2,498 candidates, Teso North 2,905 candidates, Teso South 1,382 candidates and Teso Central presented 1,361 candidates.
Butula registered the highest candidature of 3,024, Busia 2,608 candidates, Bunyala 1,099 candidates while Nambale sub-county registered 2,603 candidates.
The analysis further revealed that the county had 21 A plain, 133 A minus, 240 B plus, 594 B plain and 858 B minus.
Other grades include 1,313 C plus, 1,683 C plain, 2,099 C minus, 2,798 D plus, 3,682 D plain, 3,367 D minus and 637 candidates scored grade E.
The last lot of 39 candidates scored grade X.
The county registered an average mean score of 4.3317 in the 2023 KCSE exam, up from a mean score of 4.232 in 2022.
Over 900 candidates from 170 secondary schools in the county scored university entry grades and are expected to enroll in various varsities by September 2024.
