Kenya Primary Schools Heads Association (KEPSHA) Acting National Chairman Fuad Ali has announced that Johnson Nzioka, the late KEPSHA chair who tragically lost his life in a road accident on Sunday, will be laid to rest on Friday, February 28, in Kasongolo, Machakos County.
During a media briefing at the KEPSHA headquarters, Ali, accompanied by the National Executive Board and regional chairpersons, said that a mass in Nzioka’s honour will be held on Wednesday next week at Donholm Primary School, where he served as the head teacher for Primary and Junior Secondary Schools in Nairobi.
A fundraiser will be held on Tuesday, February 25, at a location to be announced later. Ali added that KEPSHA will celebrate Nzioka’s immense contributions to education, where he impacted many lives.

“There are so many achievements, but the major reform by Nzioka is the introduction of the Competency-Based Curriculum (CBC) and the incorporation of Junior Secondary Schools (JSS) into primary schools; this is the landmark effort we shall forever remember in our hearts,” he said.
Under Nzioka’s reign, KEPSHA witnessed remarkable expansion, with a national delegate conference last year gathering a record 16,000 head teachers, up from 10,000 the previous year.
He was instrumental in defining Kenya’s education environment, overseeing the formulation of the KEPSHA Strategic Plan for 2024-2027 and forming critical collaborations that contributed to the organization’s expansion.
Nzioka was an official in significant bodies such as the Presidential Working Party on Key Education Reforms in 2023, the International Confederation of Principals, and the National Examination Appeals Tribunal.
He was also passionate about extracurricular activities, serving as the National Vice Chair of the Kenya Primary Schools Sports Association, where he championed sports development at the primary school level.
In recognition of his contributions, Nzioka attended national and global education forums and was honoured with the Head of State Commendation (HSC) in 2021.
