Bunyala Sub-County Director of Education Mr. George Owuoche has urged all primary and secondary school heads in the Sub County to do everything at their disposal to improve on this year’s Kenya Certificate of Primary and Secondary Education Examinations’ mean grades.
In an interview with Education News at the Sub County headquarters on Monday, Owuoche lauded the school heads, teachers, students as well as the respective schools’ board of management (BOM) for having put in place an effective academic strategy that had enabled the learning institutions to perform exceptionally well in the 2022 exam.
The senior education official at the same time attributed last year’s excellent academic performance to the commitment of teachers and learners coupled with discipline of the highest order.
According to the exam data availed to us, primary schools within the Sub-County registered an overall mean grade of 276.6 in the previous year’s (2022) Kenya Certificate of Primary Education (KCPE) exam.
However, the Sub-County director of education expressed confidence saying he expects primary learning institutions to achieve an overall mean target of 280 in this year’s exam.
The data further showed that a total of 3,041 candidates comprising 1,539 boys and 1,492 girls will sit for this year’s Kenya Certificate of Primary Education exam under the 844 curriculum whereas a total of 2684 candidates comprising 1,349 boys and 1,345 girls are set to tackle this year’s Kenya Primary School Education Assessment (KPSEA) exam under the new Competency Based Curriculum (CBC) program.
In last year’s (2022) Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) exam, a total of 1,045 candidates comprising 585 boys and 460 girls attempted the exam, whereas a total of 1,101 candidates comprising 653 boys and 448 girls will appear for this year’s Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) exam. This has shown an increase of 68 boys and a decrease of 12 girls in this year’s Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education exam.
Owuoche explained that only 42 primary institutions comprising 38 public and 4 private schools across the Sub-Sounty have been identified by the Kenya National Examination Council (KNEC) in collaboration with the Ministry of Education as gazetted exam centres.
He added that 11 public secondary schools in Bunyala Sub-County have also been identified by the relevant authority as exam centres.
