Teachers drawn from Bungoma and Kakamega counties yesterday underwent a one-day financial literacy and investment training.
The session held at Webuye ACK Primary School brought together educators from Webuye East, Webuye West, and Matete sub-counties, alongside members of the Ng’arisha Savings and Credit Cooperative Organization (SACCO).
The workshop was spearheaded by Dr Wameywa Odhiambo, a lecturer at Jaramogi Oginga Odinga University, who emphasized the importance of immediate action in financial planning and investments.
“Secure your future by starting today. Informed decisions made now will bring lasting benefits,” he said.
George Muruli, another key speaker, encouraged participants to explore sugarcane farming as a profitable investment option.

He said plans are underway to have West Kenya Sugar Company collaborating with Ng’arisha SACCO to offer members farming support and guaranteed markets.
In addition to financial discussions, Dr Odhiambo appealed to teachers who are parents to use the extended school holiday to bond with and mentor their children. He underscored the need for family relationships in shaping the next generation.
Nicholas Walela, Vice Chairperson of Ng’arisha SACCO, urged more teachers to join the cooperative, highlighting the benefits of membership.
Participants were urged to adopt sound financial strategies and explore opportunities like farming to ensure stability and growth both personally and within their communities.
The event concluded with a resounding call for attendees to apply the insights shared.
