Muriuki said the schools were constructed in Phase 1 and Phase 2, promising that more classrooms will be built in Phase 3 and Phase 4.
He revealed that Nandi had a total of 576 Secondary Schools and that the remaining 161 schools without new Grade 9 will continue using the available classes until new ones are constructed.
“We have completed 415 schools for grade 9. These schools were constructed in Phase 1 and Phase 2 and there are also plans to construct more classrooms in Phase 3 and Phase 4,” he said.
He commended East Africa Produce Kenya, an International Tea Processing Company operating in Nandi Hills, for constructing ten new Grade 9 classes and eight new laboratories.
Speaking during an inspection of schools in the county, he appealed to various non-state actors operating in the area to help in improving education standards across the county by constructing new facilities and providing necessary learning equipment.

He heaped praise on the Competence-Based Curriculum (CBC) education system describing it as the best and most suitable to tackle unemployment and various challenges bedeviling Kenyan students.
CBC system
“CBC is the best education system for this country because after this year all of you will transit to Grade 10 and will be placed in various specialised schools,” he told Grade 9 learners at Nandi Hills Township Primary School in Nandi Hills.
“There is no wastage in the CBC system; if you are weak in academics, bring out your skills and talents. I know most of you are good in sports, others in music, and others in drama,” he emphasized.
Muriuki who also opened new Grade 9 classrooms in AIC Kosirai Primary School in Chesumei Constituency further urged parents to support their children in embracing the CBC education system.
Present during the opening of the classrooms on their part welcomed the employment of teachers and construction of new classrooms and other efforts aimed at ensuring CBC works, further promising to fully support the system.
