Bondo MCA distributes foodstuff worth Ksh2M to 23 ECDE centres

South Sakwa Ward MCA Eunice Ndolo.

Over 1,200 children in 23 ECDE centres in South Sakwa ward, Bondo constituency have received foodstuff valued at over Ksh2 million to boost the area’s feeding programme.

While distributing the food to ECDE teachers in her office at Migwena grounds, area MCA Eunice Ndolo noted that the rollout of the feeding programme had led to tremendous growth in the ECDE sector, both in terms of enrollments and retention in schools.

The feeding programme distributes rice, beans, sugar and cooking oil to the institutions twice annually.

“We expect the centres to ensure that the programme is managed effectively to benefit all learners,” she said.

Ndolo appealed to her colleagues to consider implementing such a programme in all wards, especially in areas where parents do not have significant economic activities.

“The move to launch the ECDE feeding program was arrived at after I realized that most children were not in schools owing to the economic situation. In rural settings, the dominant economic activity is fishing and manual labour,” she said.

“The feeding program has greatly helped parents since they no longer have to worry about what their children will eat,” she added.

Mrs. Iscar Abok, South Sakwa ECDE teachers’ representative observed that the programme is a good gesture to parents and the community since teachers now have an easy time handling the children.
