Kakamega Believers Revival Mission Bishop Julius Abung’ana has condemned the beating to death of a child by a parent in Chesikaki ward, Mt Elgon in Bungoma County, following poor performance in the recently released KCSE exams.

It’s alleged that Sarah Toto was beaten to death by her 41-year-old father following a disagreement, believed to be related to her KCSE results.

According to reports, Toto recently received her KCSE results, in which she scored a D+, which didn’t augur well with her father, causing the altercation and subsequent death.

The Bishop said parents must understand that academic grades are not the sole determinants of a child’s future and not everyone is destined for university. “The TVET space is wide with technical courses tailored to equip students with technical skills,” he said.

At the same time, he advised parents to remain calm following the recent release of the KCSE 2024 exams because there are those who have excelled while others have dismally performed.

Abung’ana encouraged parents to spend time with their children, especially those who got a mean grade of D+ and below, since they need parental emotional support.

He advised parents to collaborate with teachers to ensure the learners’ progress as the new academic year kicks off with CBC and other programmes that are already in place.

The Bishop, who is also the chairperson of the Kakamega Pastors, advised teachers to devise modalities for fee payment with parents instead of sending students away for unpaid fee arrears.
