Parents in Nyamache sub-county, Kisii have been urged to take an active role in guiding and protecting their adolescent daughters during the holiday.
Kisii-based Seventh Day Adventist (SDA) Pastor Zachary Monari said that most girls in the age fall victim to defilement and teenage pregnancies through deception by their age mates and men who take advantage of them.
Pastor Monari singled out Riosugo sub-location which has become notorious for high rate of school girls dropping out of school due to teenage pregnancies, attributing it to lack of parental care and poverty.
He said that most parents buy smartphones for their children but do not bother to instruct them on how to use the gadgets constructively and end up being misled.
“Many of our girls risk being preyed upon. I would like to see them return to school instead of ending up as young mothers this early,” he said.
The Sub County Children Officer James Bogita condemned Boda boda riders for luring school girls with free rides and later guilt-trip them into accepting their sexual advances.
Bogita put them on notice, warning that Police have been instructed to arrest and arraign them.

Speaking at Nesma Centre near Nyabururu Paris Church, he also called on the community to empower and consider the welfare of the boy child whom he said is prone to drug abuse.
Bogita praised Mwanyagetinge Heritage Council of Elders for spearheading awareness campaigns against Gender-Based Violence (GBV).
