Education Cabinet Secretary Migos Ogamba has assured schools that the delayed capitation funds will be released this week, attributing the delay to pressing national commitments.

His remarks come amid concerns from school principals who have criticized the allocations as inadequate.

Ogamba addressed parents, teachers, students, and other education stakeholders at Kereri Girls’ High School in Kisii County during their 60th Golden Jubilee celebration.

“We know the government does not have enough money to distribute to all its development projects at once, but we promise to support education and ask parents to appreciate the effort,” he said.

He acknowledged the delay in capitation funds to schools but urged school heads to embrace patience and resilience in their day-to-day duties in order to navigate the ever-unpredictable economic and political landscape.

Book launch

The Cabinet Secretary presided over the launch of the school’s book titled “Leading Forward”. The book highlights the overall outlook of the institution and was co-authored by 18 students under the supervision of two staff members.

Attendees included Kisii County Deputy Governor Elijah Obebo, Kisii County Education Executive Esther Okenyuri, and the host, Nyaribari Chache MP Zaheer Jhandah.

Kisii County Director of Education Philip Chirchir thanked the principals from the region for collaborating harmoniously with teachers, stating that this unity has enhanced good performance in the 2025 KCSE examinations.

Kereri Secondary School Senior Principal Tabitha Mogonchi noted that the institution is classified as an Extra County with more than 2,800 students, which has been influenced by the hundred percent transition policy from primary to secondary education.

She said the school’s good performance is as a result of discipline, self-drive among students, and teamwork from both teachers and parents, as well as a strong sense of faith. She expressed optimism for this year’s KCSE examinations, as the school has already set a target of 9.1, and candidates are working diligently and staying focused to achieve it.
