Battle lines drawn for 2025 KSSSA National Term One Games in Mombasa

The 2025 Kenya Secondary Schools Sports Association (KSSSA) National Term One Games pools have been announced by Ministry of Education, setting the stage for an exciting showdown in Mombasa starting April5-13, 2025.

Schools nationwide will compete in hockey, handball, basketball, and rugby fifteens, with the battle for national glory officially underway.

The hockey competition will be highly competitive, with teams aiming for a spot in the knockout rounds.

In the boys’ category, Pool A includes Nairobi, Nyanza, Rift Valley, and Coast 1. At the same time, Pool B features Western, Central, Eastern, and Coast 2.

For the girls, Pool A consists of Coast 1, Eastern, Rift Valley, and Nairobi, while Pool B will see Coast 2, Nyanza, Western, and Central battle it out.

Handball teams are set for intense matchups as they compete for a national title.

In the boys’ category, Pool A includes North Eastern, Nyanza, Nairobi, and Eastern. At the same time, Pool B features Western, Central, Coast, and Rift Valley.

After the mid-term break, students will return to class on March 2, 2025. They will immediately engage in a well-rounded extracurricular programme that blends academics with personal development through sports, arts, and teamwork initiatives.

A major highlight for 2025 is the reintroduction of age limits for participants, which will create a fairer and safer environment for all competitors

Primary school participants must be under 12, junior secondary students must be under 15, and secondary school participants must be under 18.

Secondary Schools (Under 18)

  • Sports Featured: Rugby 15s, Basketball 5×5, Hockey, Handball, Athletics, Cross Country, Swimming
  • Location: Coast Region
  • Important Dates:
    • Clinics: April 5–7
    • Team Arrival: April 6
    • Opening Ceremony: April 7 (Shanzu Teachers’ Training College)
    • Competition Days: April 8–12
    • Departure: April 13

Primary Schools (Under 12)

  • Activities: Athletics, Gymnastics, Kids Athletics, Cross Country
  • Location: Coast Region
  • Important Dates:
    • Clinics: April 5–6
    • Team Arrival: April 6
    • Opening Ceremony: April 7 (Shanzu TTC)
    • Event Days: April 8–11
    • Closing/Departure: April 11–12 (NYS Grounds, Likoni)

Junior Secondary Schools (Under 15)

  • Sports Included: Rugby 7s, Basketball 5×5, Athletics, Cross Country, Swimming
  • Location: Coast Region
  • Important Dates (same as primary schools):
    • Event Days: April 8–11 (NYS Grounds, Likoni)
    • Departure: April 12

This year’s programmes also include students from special schools, with events scheduled alongside the Coast Region calendar. Key highlights are as follows:

  • Secondary Special Schools: Closing ceremony on April 12 at Sahajanand Special School.
  • Primary Special Schools: Final events at Ziwani School for the Deaf.
