Baringo county government has laid policies in place ahead of the confirmation of 1,588 Early Childhood Development Education (ECDE) teachers to Permanent and Pensionable (PNP) terms.
Speaking during the review exercise of Trainers of Trainees (ToTs) and Ward coordinators at Lelian ECDE centre in Baringo Central sub-county, Chief Officer for Education and Vocational Training, Joseph Wahiaro, said that he was confident the teachers were ready and equipped with the expertise to implement CBC.
He assured that Special Needs Education (SNE) teachers had also been factored in the recruitment.
Wahiaro said that inadequate teaching and learning materials had been a major issue bedeviling the ECDE sector but the administration had managed to furnish the quarter, enabling seamless functioning.
The Officer decried poor infrastructure in some centres in Tiaty constituency but assured support after confirmation of the teachers.
Wahiaro said that 326 ECDE teachers aged 50 years and above will serve on contract and paid gratuity while 178 untrained teachers will earn a one-year contract.
“Baringo county is working with 30 ward coordinators and Principal Education Officers from all the sub-counties to revamp the sector. Reforms reached during our training will allow them to sign an MoU with Ministry of Education and Teachers Service Commission,” he added.
