Baringo county government has confirmed new terms of remuneration for 1,082 Early Childhood Development and Education (ECDE) teachers.
The new development ends a decade of ECDE teachers being on contractual terms with the county government, with 1,082 teachers confirmed on Permanent and Pensionable terms.
Speaking during the issuance of confirmation letters to ECDE teachers, Deputy Governor (DG) Eng. Felix Maiyo said teachers above 50 years will earn 31% gratuity with no contract and 177 untrained teachers will sign a new contract and due for redeployment upon completing their ECDE course.
In the new terms of engagement, the county will introduce leave allowance, health cover and training on Competency-Based Curriculum (CBC).
Eng. Maiyo noted that teachers will now be entitled to 12% pension for their period in service upon retirement and 15% package from the county government.
He lauded the county’s Department of Education for deferring the development budget to allow remuneration of the ECDE teachers.
The DG asked the assembly to expedite the County Nutrition Bill, noting that its passing will play a pivotal role in increasing enrolment in ECDE centres.
