Head teachers have been told to be ready with financial statements since they’ll now be audited by the Office of the Auditor General effective 2025/2026 Financial Year.
Ministry of Education (MoE) Chief Finance Officer Wekesa Khaoya, taking the school managers through a session on maximizing the impact of Free Education Capitation Funding at the KEPSHA conference, urged the teachers to avoid audit queries when this begins.
He was sensitizing them on enhanced transparency, accountability and effective utilization of resources in primary and Junior School (JS).

He urged the heads to be keen on their budgets by ensuring that they match their expenditures to avoid pending bills, and to make sure all procurement plans are approved by the school Board of Management (BoM) and put them through regular reviews.
He further advised them to ensure that all payments are supported by documentation, avoid irregular BoM meetings, and ensure that their non-teaching staff members have valid contracts to achieve zero audit queries.
Primary school head teachers are now the latest entry into the audit of schools by the Auditor General after the same programme targetting secondary schools was launched previously.
