Kisii County Governor Simba Arati has mourned Asumbi TTC lecturer Zachary Okwoyo as a great scholar who cherished peace, asking the younger generation to emulate him.
He said Okwoyo preached peace and unity in the world while he was alive, and therefore residents of Kisii and Nyamira counties must avoid divisive politics as was seen in recent skirmishes.
The governor was speaking at Nyamira Township Ward in Nyamira County when he consoled the family of the deceased.
He appealed to Members of County Assembly (MCAs) from both Kisii and Nyamira to come together and stop fighting for ownership of Tinga town, adding that historical boundaries are there to govern them.
He regretted that some hooligans from Kisii invaded Tinga Market and caused disturbance among the surrounding schools and the community.

Saying that problems of the day cannot be resolved through violence, he promised to work hand in hand with his Nyamira counterpart Amos Nyaribo to iron out the trivial differences once and for all.
“We shall sit together with Governor Nyaribo and learn from each other about what is the best way forward for our people because we cannot afford to break our historical coexistence,” said Arati.
Nyamira Township Ward MCA Duke Masira welcomed Arati’s suggestion, pointing out that Kisii and Nyamira residents have coexisted for a long time and stressed the need to cement that relationship.
According to members of the family, the late Okwoyo died after a long illness. He will be laid to rest this Friday. Until his death, Okwoyo was a long serving tutor at Asumbi Teachers Training College in Homa Bay County.
