A man aged 24 years escaped death narrowly from irate villagers who wanted to lynch him for defiling a minor.

Bonyamasicho Location Chief Jare Mosiria restrained them from taking the law into their hands and reported the matter to the police.

That was when the police in Nyamira started looking for the suspect who allegedly defiled his niece before running away.

According to Mosiria, he was given a report that the suspect was living with his brother’s daughter in a hidden hut after luring her by buying her chips, sweets and underpants several times.

“The villagers discovered the illicit affair and set a trap to catch the randy man, and their plan worked partially,” he said.

They invaded the suspect’s hut and caught the two in a compromising position before the man tricked them and ran away and the girl was rescued.

After her interrogation in the presence of the area chief, the girl admitted the whole incident and narrated how the man has been fetching her from her father’s house secretly at night.

They took the girl to Keroka Level 4 hospital for medical checkup.

Area Chief accused Keroka medical staff of dragging their feet in carrying out the necessary laboratory tests to help the police in investigations.

Since then, the Grade 7 girl has refused to go to school for fear of being ridiculed by her school mates.
