Kenyenya Sub-county Deputy County Commissioner (DCC) William Bett has said all was well in the just concluded KCSE examinations, except for a few isolated cases.
He thanked all stakeholders for the cooperation, saying that it was a demanding exercise but the men and women who were assigned duty were equal to the task.
Speaking at his Kenyenya office, Bett said among the candidates were two who did their examinations from hospital.
Commenting on 19 examination officials who were suspended from Kebabe Secondary School over negligence, the commissioner said they had recorded statements with the Department of Criminal Investigation (DCI) and their cases will be dealt with individually.
“This is a matter with the police and they know how to probe but I am generally satisfied with the conduct of majority of those who were in charge of the examination,” he said.
The alleged anomaly at Kebabe SDA Mixed came to light when a Kenya National Examination Council (KNEC) officer who was on routine inspection came across examination materials in possession of some candidates.

Police reports indicated that 31 mobile phones were found in one of the boys’ dormitories, and 3 more in one of the examination classrooms. They are suspected to have been used to transmit information on the CRE paper that was in progress.
The officer reported the matter to Kenyenya police who confiscated the mobile phones to assist in investigations.
Following the incident, candidates went on the rampage over claims of mistreatment by the police, interrupting the examination.
“Some of them sustained minor injuries as they jumped over the fences at night to hide in the villages as they ran away from the police but the situation calmed down the following morning as they agreed to continue with the examinations,” he said.
