A 3-year old school girl was hit and killed by a speeding bodaboda at Itumbe- Igare road junction in Kisii County yesterday.
According to eye witnesses, the minor who was with her mother was walking along the side of the road when the bodaboda rider lost control as he negotiated a corner and knocked and killed her instantly.
The Friday afternoon incident caused fear and panic as business at Itumbe Market went into a standstill for three hours.
Her relatives reported the matter to Itumbe Police Station who took the body to Ogembo Municipal Hospital Mortuary for postmortem and further investigation.
‘We could not identify the bodaboda that caused the accident as the rider ran away from the scene to avoid mob justice,” said Wilberforce Moguche who identified himself as an uncle of the deceased.
He appealed to the police to investigate and arrest the suspect.
Sameta Sub-county Director of Education Jane Ongwae appealed to parents to guard their children against all accidents as they are soon coming home for August holidays.
Kisii County Police boss Charles Keses confirmed the accident and identified the victim as Teresa Okero, appealing to road users to be more careful to avoid such avoidable accidents.
