Some 25, 000 students across the country are set to benefit from the KSh273 million disbursed in form of bursaries and scholarships courtesy of the National Government Affirmative Action Fund (NGAAF).

The sum is just a fraction of the KSh1.5 billion released by the government to aid learners from vulnerable households.

The Gender and Affirmative Action Principal Secretary Anne Wang’ombe, while commenting on the release of funds on Thursday, May 23, 2024 revealed that a total of KSh413 million will be used to support 2, 000 registered affirmative action groups with grants.

“The grants are meant to increase the disposable income levels for the beneficiaries for improved livelihoods through enterprise development,” she said.

She said a sum totalling KSh677 million will go towards countywide projects whose benefits will be available to a widespread cross-section of the inhabitants of the community across the country.

“To ensure continued interaction with the community, the fund has disbursed Ksh.137 million for civic education to sensitize the community on various government programmes and policies, how to access NGAAF funds and other devolved funds,” she added.

Beneficiaries of the grants are affirmative action groups that made their applications and met the eligibility criteria through NGAAF county offices by April 3, 2024.
