Teachers, university lecturers, and staff are poised for a mouthwatering salary increase, according to a document from the Treasury to the National Assembly that was seen by Education News.
The National Treasury is requesting the National Assembly to approve an additional Ksh 88 billion, which will facilitate a pay rise for educators.
Of the requested amount, Ksh 68 billion will be allocated to ministerial expenditures. Additionally, Ksh 24.7 billion will be designated for recurrent expenditure, while Ksh 43 billion will be earmarked for development projects.
Unions representing university lecturers and teachers have been advocating for salary increases and have expressed concerns regarding issues with their medical coverage, which have led to members being turned away from healthcare facilities.

Education News has learned that the Teachers Service Commission (TSC) will receive the largest share of these additional funds in the second phase of the 2025/2026 supplementary estimates.
The Treasury has already sent the budget estimates to the National Assembly for approval.
According to the documents, Ksh 17 billion is planned for teachers’ pay increases, while Ksh 10 billion is allocated for salary adjustments.
Teachers’ basic salaries are projected to increase by Ksh 6.9 billion, and Ksh 4.7 billion will be allocated for teachers’ contributions to a compulsory health insurance scheme.
Meanwhile, university lecturers and their staff have been allocated Ksh 4.3 billion for their Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBC).
The 2025/2026 Financial Year looks promising for the education sector, and all eyes are now on the National Assembly for the approval of the proposed estimates as presented by the National Treasury.
