Basic Education Principal Secretary (PS) Dr. Belio Kipsang’ has said that cases of exam malpractice during Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) have reduced compared to recent years.
The PS, who was speaking on Friday in Kikuyu sub-county after overseeing the distribution of the 2024 KCSE examination papers, said they have recorded the lowest usage of mobile phones during the national exam.
“So far we have run quite a good exam, the number of incidents of attempted sneaking in mobile phones has been very minimal compared to any other year, this has been our best year in terms of doing the exams the right way,” Dr. Kipsang’ said.
Kipsang’ commended exam officials for ensuring the exams run smoothly and media for bringing to the ministry’s attention incidents that need to be addressed.
He however warned the few officials involved in malpractice saying that they were putting their work at risk and destroying their careers.
The PS called on them to adhere to guidelines to maintain the integrity exams.

He noted that the centres that have been reported as not having registered candidates, the administrations will face full force of the law.
This year, the Ministry mandated teachers to manage Kenya Primary School Education Assessment (KPSEA), with security officers being instructed to man the vehicles carrying the examination papers.
The government has repeatedly assured that they have put in place sufficient measures to enhance the safety and security of the exams and assessments materials so as to ensure fairness, transparency and smooth execution of the exam processes.
