Principal Secretary (PS) for Basic Education Dr. Belio Kipsang has affirmed that all Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) examiners and markers will be paid today, Monday, January 8, 2024.
Dr. Kipsang, who was speaking at Moi Girls High School in Eldoret during the release of the 2023 KCSE examination results, said that the examiners will have their cash, amounting to Ksh2.8 billion, by evening.
“I want to assure our examiners that we have released your payments. I know KNEC finalized it this morning. And if it is not in your points of payment, then it will during the course of the day,” he said.
The PS said the government has also released Term 1 capitation funds to schools and will be in school accounts by Wednesday this week.
Education CS Ezekiel Machogu commended KNEC for ensuring that examiners and markers are paid before the release of exams, unlike in past years.
KNEC engaged 234,473 teachers to administer the KCSE exams. These include supervisors, invigilators and exam markers.
A total of 903,260 candidates sat for the national exams which began on October 23 and ended on November 2023.
