15-year-old student drowns in River Nyamindi

A 15-year-old student tragically drowned in the fierce River Nyamindi on Friday. Collins Bundi, a St. James Kiaritha Secondary School student in Kerugoya, was with a fellow student when the incident occurred. River Nyamindi, located in central Kenya, flows through Kirinyaga County and is known for its fast-moving waters, making it especially dangerous.

According to John Kiama, the chairman of the disaster management committee, the two students had taken a bike and travelled to an unknown location, specifically the Mururi area, without informing their parents.

Kiama expressed his concern, stating that Bundi’s drowning led to widespread panic. “The two picked bikes and rode to an unknown destination. We received a call informing us that Bundi had drowned, and it’s very unfortunate,” Kiama said.
