15 Narok schools benefit from AMREF Wash programme

15 schools in Narok County benefitted from AMREF Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene (WASH) programme held at Lekanka Comprehensive School in Narok West Sub-County recently.

According to Daniel Karau, the AMREF Wash Manager, the programme which is under the AMREF Health Africa, and funded by the German-based Welfare Foundation its main focus is securing human rights,  provide safe water for drinking , safe sanitation, and hygiene in underserved communities and schools.

“AMREF Wash programme main focus is to ensure we provide safe water for drinking, safe sanitation, and hygiene in underserved communities and schools,” he said.

He revealed that since 2021, the programme has supported 42 schools and 281 villages by providing water, sanitation, and promoting proper hygiene with the aim of having a direct positive effect on education and health for women and adolescent girls.

At the same time, Joseph Lewa, the Deputy County Commissioner, appreciated AMREF Health Africa for its efforts to work with the national government and the county government of Narok on Wash issues in both Narok West Sub-County and Trans Mara West Sub-County.

He also mentioned that the provision of water to the 6,500 households at Lekanka Centre was of great value to the community.

Madam Rose Lanoi, the principal of Lekanka Comprehensive School on her part, lauded AMREF for choosing the institution for the event.

“I would love to thank AMREF Health Africa for choosing our institution as the host of the AMREF Wash programme, it is so honouring as this has in a good way impacted the students in the school as well as from our neighbouring institutions,” she said.

 She mentioned that the school was established in the year 2000 with a population of 781 students. She expressed her heartfelt gratitude to the area MP, Gabriel Tongoyo, for providing a dormitory through the CDF Funds.
